Hongqiao, initially known as red bridge, was later changed to the name Rainbow Bridge, is regarded as the first scene of the Slender Westlake. Numerous artists and literati have enchanted the bridge, due to their natural attachments with the mountains and waters. Ancient people had an even stronger feeling for mountain and water compared with modern man, and called those mountain-water-related cultural activities Xiuqi, a bathing tradition traced back to the Zhou Dynasty. Literati go for Xiuqi in spring and autumn seasons, and two most famous Xiuqi in Chinese history are Lanting Xiuqi and Hongqiao Xiuqi
